Тесницкий полигон, Historic execution site in Tesnitsky, Russia
The Tesnitsky site contains more than 100 mass graves spread across a forest area, located 20 kilometers from the city of Tula.
During the 1930s political repressions, this location became a mass execution ground where over 2,500 people lost their lives under Stalin's regime.
The memorial complex includes a brick chapel dedicated to New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia, built in 2001, and a granite memorial stone.
Religious services occur at the chapel on September 16th each year, commemorating the Tula martyrs through special memorial ceremonies.
The site remained undiscovered until the late 1980s when investigators uncovered evidence of mass graves containing bullet-marked skulls and ammunition shells.
