The Musée de Semur-en-Auxois displays artworks, archaeological findings, and medieval sculptures across three floors in a former Jacobins convent building.
The museum emerged from a drawing and sculpture school established in 1833, with Étienne Bouhot as its first director who gathered initial artworks from fellow artists.
The collection includes paintings from the 15th to 20th centuries by artists like Vignon, Corot, Boilly, and original plasters from Augustin Dumont's workshop.
The museum opens Wednesday through Friday from 2 PM to 6 PM, and Saturday from 9 AM to noon and 2 PM to 6 PM, with admission at 4 euros.
The museum houses an internationally recognized geological collection of 10,000 samples, including numerous ammonites discovered in the Semur region.
