Grue noire, Industrial crane monument in Chantenay district, Nantes, France.

The black metal crane structure weighs 110 tons and stands on the banks of the Loire River, featuring an asymmetrical portal design.

Built in 1942 for the Dubigeon shipyard, the crane suffered destruction by German forces in 1944 and underwent reconstruction until 1947.

The crane remains a fundamental element of Nantes industrial heritage, representing the maritime activities that shaped the city throughout the 20th century.

Located near the N2 Navibus station, the crane site will undergo extensive restoration work until 2024, with a budget of 2.9 million euros.

The structure could lift loads of up to 30 tons and operated continuously until 1967, when shipbuilding activities moved from Chantenay to Prairie-au-Duc.
