Soviet Bunker museum

The Soviet Bunker Museum is a military museum housed in an underground bunker near Vilnius. The facility consists of several rooms displaying military equipment, survival gear, and communication devices from the Cold War period.

The bunker was built during Soviet rule as one of approximately 300 civil defense shelters designed to protect Vilnius residents from chemical and nuclear threats. It served as part of the comprehensive defense system the Soviet Union established during the Cold War.

The museum preserves artifacts showing how Soviet forces lived and worked in Lithuania during the Cold War era. The displayed objects tell the story of soldiers' daily life and their duties within this underground complex.

Access is available only through advance reservation for guided tours offered in English, Lithuanian, and Russian. The underground rooms require comfortable shoes and basic physical fitness for navigating and exploring the facility.

Visitors can operate original ventilation mechanisms and open heavy airtight doors to understand how the bunker functioned. The chance to wear authentic protective suits provides direct insight into what working inside this complex felt like.
