Balancing Barn, Modern residential structure in Thorington, United Kingdom.

The Balancing Barn extends 30 meters in length with half of its structure suspended over a natural slope, covered in reflective metal sheeting.

Dutch architecture firm MVRDV completed this experimental residential project in 2010 as part of the Living Architecture initiative by Alain de Botton.

The interior design incorporates references to Suffolk painters John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough through specific room themes and artistic elements.

Four bedrooms with private bathrooms accommodate eight guests, while the central kitchen and dining area provide spaces for group gatherings.

A glass floor section in the living area measures 5.8 square meters, offering direct views of the ground beneath the suspended portion.
