Le M.U.R de Bordeaux, Outdoor art installation in the Chartrons neighborhood, Bordeaux, France
Le M.U.R de Bordeaux is an outdoor artwork installation in the Chartrons neighborhood, where a single large wall is entirely repainted by a new artist each month. It sits on Place Paul et Jean-Paul Avisseau, right next to the École Stendhal, and is fully visible from the street.
The wall was inaugurated in September 2014 by the association Pôle Magnetic, which brought the M.U.R network concept, born in Paris, to Bordeaux. Since then, works have changed every month, with artists invited from the local area and from across France.
Le M.U.R de Bordeaux is part of a wider network of walls across France that all follow the same principle: one month, one artist, one wall. Each new work is unveiled at an open gathering where visitors can meet the artist in person.
Since the work changes every month, it is worth coming back at different times of the year to see something new each time. The spot is freely accessible at any time, as the wall stands in a public square.
Jef Aerosol, the artist who painted the very first work on this wall, is known above all for his stencil portraits and is considered one of the pioneers of European street art. The school next door was involved in the project from the start and has taken part in collective murals with its students.
