Duxford Airfield, Aviation museum in South Cambridgeshire, England.
Duxford Airfield is an aviation museum in South Cambridgeshire spread across seven exhibition halls containing nearly 200 aircraft, military vehicles, artillery, and naval vessels. The collection spans different conflicts and periods, displayed within a former military flying base.
The site served as a Royal Flying Corps base during World War I and later became a crucial fighter station during the Battle of Britain. After the war, the facility was converted into a museum documenting aviation history.
The American Air Museum displays one of the largest collections of US military aircraft outside North America in a striking modern building. Here you can see machines from different eras and understand how aviation shaped the relationship between nations during the 20th century.
The museum is straightforward to explore with multiple entrances to different exhibition areas, allowing visitors to plan flexibly where to start. There are plenty of seating areas throughout the halls, and a visit typically takes several hours depending on how thoroughly you wish to explore the exhibits.
In Hangar 2, visitors can watch craftspeople restoring and maintaining flying vintage aircraft, giving a glimpse into practical conservation work. This workshop remains in active use, showing that some machines displayed here still take to the air regularly.
