Schloss Hohenkammer, Renaissance castle and restaurant in Hohenkammer, Bavaria, Germany
Schloss Hohenkammer is a four-wing Renaissance building in the Bavarian village of Hohenkammer, with four corner towers and a square gatehouse. At its center lies a courtyard surrounded by arcaded galleries on multiple levels.
The Counts of Haslang started construction after 1551, building the castle as a noble residence in rural Bavaria. A fire in 1648 destroyed much of the structure, which was then rebuilt in keeping with its original style.
The castle is home to a restaurant known for cooking with ingredients grown on its own farm nearby. Guests at the table can trace what they eat back to the fields just outside the building.
The castle sits north of Munich and is easy to reach by car. It now operates as a hotel and conference center, but day visitors are welcome at the restaurant and in the grounds.
The castle is directly linked to Gut Eichethof, a working farm where most of the restaurant ingredients are grown and processed. Few dining establishments of this kind have such close control over what ends up on the plate.
