Espresso Embassy, Coffee-house near Basilica, Budapest, Hungary
Espresso Embassy is a café on Arany János utca in the 5th district of Budapest, close to the Basilica. The space has vaulted ceilings, black industrial lighting, wooden furniture, and a small terrace facing the street.
The café opened in 2013, founded by barista champion Tibor Várady, who had previously worked at another Budapest coffee spot. Moving to Arany János utca marked the start of an independent project focused on specialty coffee.
The name "Embassy" plays on the idea of a meeting point for different cultures, which is reflected in the selection of coffee beans from around the world. Visitors who order an espresso here quickly notice the care put into each cup.
The café opens early on weekdays and a little later on weekends, making it a good starting point for a morning walk around the Basilica area. When the interior fills up, the street terrace is a good alternative.
The interior was designed by Sporaarchitects, the same firm responsible for several Budapest metro stations. This connection between a metro project and a small café on a side street tends to catch visitors off guard.
