Międzyrzecki Rejon Umocniony Muzeum Fortyfikacji i Nietoperzy

The Międzyrzecki Rejon Umocniony is an underground fortification system with an extensive network of tunnels and concrete bunkers. The installation includes ventilation systems, water supply, and communication facilities that show how this hidden military site was designed to function.

The system was built between 1925 and 1941 as an eastern defensive barrier and stretched across a huge area. After World War 2, other forces took control and used the facilities for different purposes.

The bunkers shelter tens of thousands of bats during winter months, where they retreat to hibernate. This underground refuge is one of the largest natural retreats for these animals in Europe.
