Paakashala@Solur, Vegetarian restaurant in Kudur, India
Paakashala@Solur is a vegetarian restaurant on the Bangalore-Mysore National Highway, in the town of Solur near Kudur. It has large dining halls with wide windows and offers both dine-in and takeaway service.
The restaurant was founded by Shri KN Vasudeva Adiga, building on a culinary tradition that began with a separate establishment in Bengaluru in the 1960s. That earlier venture laid the groundwork for the cooking approach still used today.
The name "Paakashala" comes from Sanskrit and roughly means "place of cooking". Guests can try dishes from across India in one sitting, from South Indian thalis to North Indian breads, all prepared without meat.
The restaurant sits directly on a busy national road, making it easy to stop in while traveling by car. Visiting outside of main meal hours is a good idea, as it can fill up quickly during peak times.
The kitchen is divided into separate sections for South Indian, North Indian, and Indo-Chinese cooking, each run by its own team of chefs. This means no single cook has to switch between very different techniques during the same service.
