Model of Jerusalem in 2nd Temple Period

The 2,000-square-meter model recreates Jerusalem's urban layout at a 1:50 scale, featuring detailed buildings, streets, and architectural elements from 66 CE.

Professor Michael Avi Yonah designed this representation based on Josephus Flavius writings, showing Jerusalem before the Great Revolt against Roman rule.

The model depicts social divisions through different districts, with the Upper City showing wealthy areas and the Lower City representing working-class neighborhoods.

The exhibition stands near the Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum, offering guided tours and educational programs throughout the year.

Builders used authentic materials including Jerusalem stone and marble to construct this detailed representation, which underwent multiple updates for historical accuracy.
