Topolabamba, Mexican restaurant in St Vincent Street, Glasgow, GB
Topolabamba is a Mexican restaurant in central Glasgow, spread over two floors with colorful wall decorations, wooden tables, and metal chairs. Large windows let in plenty of daylight and give the space an open feel.
The restaurant opened in 2014 as the first of its kind in Glasgow, bringing regional Mexican cooking to Scotland's largest city. It was among the first places in the city to focus on dishes from specific parts of Mexico rather than a general Mexican menu.
The name comes from Topolobampo, a small fishing port in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. The menu draws from four distinct Mexican regions, so a single table can bring together dishes that taste nothing like each other.
The restaurant sits in central Glasgow and is easy to reach on foot from most city center spots. Weekend evenings tend to fill up, so booking ahead is a good idea if you plan to go then.
Every table receives a free portion of tortilla chips with three house-made salsas before anyone has ordered a thing. The three salsas cover a range from mild to very hot, and all are made in-house.
