Holmegaard Værk
Holmegaard Værk is a museum and art gallery in Næstved housed in a former glass factory that has produced glass and ceramics since 1825. The site displays over 40,000 glass pieces on tall shelves, original production machines and kilns, with craftspeople regularly performing live glassblowing demonstrations.
The factory was established in 1825 and grew into a major production center for glassware, employing generations of skilled workers. It maintained its production role for over 200 years before being transformed into a museum to preserve the story of this long craftsmanship tradition.
The name reflects the marshy location and centuries of glass-making craft that shaped local families and communities. Visitors can see these traditions alive today through the artworks on display and in the active workshops where craftspeople work in view of guests.
The location is easy to reach by car from Næstved, requiring about 30 minutes of travel time, and offers accessible entry with ramps and special facilities for visitors. Guests can explore workshops, participate in activities, purchase handmade glass items in the shop, and enjoy interactive games that make the visit engaging for all ages.
The outdoor area features a 12-meter tall sculpture called 'The Recipient' created by a renowned artist that invites quiet reflection. The grounds also offer an interactive game called 'Beast Hunt' where visitors can use their phones to hunt imaginary Stone Age creatures, turning the experience into active play.
