Playa la Arena
Playa la Arena is a beach on the southern coast near Puerto de Santiago with dark volcanic sand and fine texture, stretching about 140 meters long and 40 meters wide. The beach provides changing rooms, showers, lounger and parasol rentals, a sea wall promenade, and restaurants and bars along the waterfront.
The beach developed from a fishing settlement into a popular bathing destination for both locals and visitors, with the dark sand revealing the island's volcanic origins. The area has maintained its character while receiving formal recognition through the Blue Flag award for water quality and beach management.
The beach serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors share the rhythm of coastal life, from morning walks to afternoon meals with sea views. The dark volcanic sand creates a distinctive character that feels different from lighter beaches in the region.
The beach is easily accessible by car via roads TF-47 or TF-82, or by buses 325 and 473 that stop nearby, with parking available close to the sand. The facilities are accessible to people with disabilities, with toilets, showers, and clear signage throughout the area.
The beach has held the Blue Flag award for about 27 years, marking consistent water quality and cleanliness standards. This extended recognition reflects the steady commitment to maintenance and management that sets it apart from many other coastal destinations.
