Gleiberg Castle, Medieval castle in Wettenberg, Germany
Gleiberg Castle consists of an upper fortress from the 10th century and a lower fortress built on a hilltop with stone walls and towers. The two sections are connected together and form a complete fortified complex.
The castle was founded in the 10th century and went through several reconstructions after territorial conflicts. Each destruction and rebuilding left marks in the building structure.
The rooms inside show different building styles from various periods of medieval construction. You can see how each generation left its own mark on the walls.
The castle is free to enter and the main tower can be climbed for views over the surrounding landscape. The hilltop location provides natural viewpoints across the region.
The Nassau Building now houses a restaurant operated inside the medieval castle walls. Visitors can dine and drink within the ancient fortification.
