Ding How, Asian restaurant in San Antonio, US
Ding How is an Asian restaurant in San Antonio, Texas, set inside a building raised on red stilts at the corner of Loop 410 and Callaghan Road. The menu runs to over 100 dishes and includes options prepared without gluten or MSG.
The Huey family opened this restaurant in 1983, building on the success of their earlier Hung Fong restaurant, which had been running in San Antonio since 1939. Ding How was their second location after more than four decades in the business.
The dining room is filled with objects brought from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, including silk embroideries made with real gold thread and hand-painted wall murals. These pieces cover much of the interior, so every corner of the room has something to look at.
The restaurant sits near the Medical Center area and is easy to reach by car from most parts of the city. The building on red stilts is visible from the road, so it is straightforward to spot when you arrive.
A stone fountain at the entrance invites guests to toss in coins, and the money collected goes to local groups such as the Salvation Army and the San Antonio Food Bank. This has been a quiet, ongoing practice at the restaurant for years.
