Palace Hotel
The Palace Hotel is a classical-style building in the center of Poços de Caldas, Brazil, with around 190 rooms spread across its floors. It includes a natural thermal pool filled with sulfurous spring water and event spaces, as well as an adjoining structure that once served as a casino.
The hotel opened in 1929 as part of a broader effort to develop Poços de Caldas into a destination for visitors drawn by its thermal springs. The casino next door, which drew many guests in the early decades, eventually closed after gambling was prohibited nationally.
The name Palace was chosen to signal a level of comfort that matched the ambitions of a city built around its thermal waters. Today, guests still gather around the natural pool in the central area, making it the most visible meeting point of the building.
The hotel is located in the center of Poços de Caldas, making it easy to reach many local points of interest on foot. The thermal pool area is a separate section of the property, so it is worth asking staff where to find it when you arrive.
The hotel still has its original crystal chandeliers and floor materials from when it first opened in 1929, visible throughout the interior today. Few buildings from that era in Brazil have kept so many of their original interior elements intact over such a long period.
