Sarastro Restaurant, European restaurant in City of Westminster, England
Sarastro Restaurant is a European establishment in Westminster featuring opera-themed interiors and theatrical decor. The dining space spans multiple sections adorned with gilded balconies, chandeliers, mirrors, and richly colored velvet draperies that create the ambiance of a grand theater.
This establishment opened in 1996 after converting a former pub into a theatrical dining venue. The name and concept drew inspiration from Mozart's opera character Sarastro, launching a novel approach to upscale dining in London.
Musicians perform classical music and opera selections while guests dine in individual boxes designed like theater boxes. This arrangement creates a sense of watching a performance rather than simply eating in a conventional restaurant.
The venue opens Monday through Wednesday until 10 PM, Thursday to Saturday until 11 PM, and on Sundays until 10 PM. The dining space is divided into separate theatrical sections, so visitors may find navigation between areas a bit involved.
Each dining section carries different design themes such as baroque, rococo, and byzantine styles, creating distinct experiences within the same space. This varied approach allows diners to feel as if they are in completely different environments despite being in one restaurant.
