Geisleralm, Mountain restaurant in Villnöß - Funes, Italy
Geisleralm is a mountain restaurant at 2000 meters elevation in the Puez-Odle Nature Park with views of Dolomite peaks. The building holds about 50 indoor seats and sits beneath the Geisler range.
The inn developed from the mountain hut culture that has served herders and hikers for centuries with food and shelter. Over generations it became a place where South Tyrolean mountain cooking was preserved and passed along.
The restaurant keeps South Tyrolean Alpine cooking alive by preparing dishes from old recipes and sourcing ingredients from nearby farms. Diners can observe how these traditions remain part of everyday life in the mountain communities around them.
You can reach the restaurant on foot after about a two-hour hike or by private minibus from the valley between May and November. In winter the access becomes difficult so it is wise to check ahead if the place is open.
The restaurant sits at a point where hiking trails from different valleys converge making it hard to find without local knowledge. This central location historically made it a natural meeting spot for people from different parts of the region.
