Koffee Kup
The Koffee Kup is a stone-faced restaurant in the small town of Hico, Texas, located along Highway 281 and seating about 116 people across three dining areas. The building presents a simple, well-maintained appearance with clean rooms and straightforward interior design.
The restaurant opened in 1968 and has served the town ever since. Jack Allen purchased it in 1970, and later his son Lynn took over the business, which is now continued by Irene and Pat to maintain the family legacy.
The Koffee Kup's name reflects its primary role in the community. Locals gather at the counter or settle at tables with family and friends, and this everyday use of the space shapes how the place feels and functions as a social hub.
The place is open every day and gets very busy in the mornings when locals come for coffee and breakfast. Visit at a quieter time if you prefer to sit and eat without feeling rushed or crowded.
The place is known for its pies made fresh daily and topped with a special meringue that uses Australian seaweed. The restaurant even sells meringue stabilizer packets so customers can recreate the technique at home.
