Royal Armouries: Fort Nelson

Fort Nelson extends across 19 acres of land with underground tunnels, elevated ramparts, and an extensive collection of international artillery pieces.

The fortress, constructed during the Victorian era as part of Portsmouth's defenses, protected the region from potential French invasions in the 19th century.

The museum displays a collection spanning centuries of military engineering, including the 15th-century Turkish bombard cannon and the 200-tonne railway howitzer.

The museum opens Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with free admission and pre-booking available through their online platform.

Visitors can examine the Big Babylon Iraqi supergun, while exploring the network of tunnels that soldiers used during the fort's operational period.
