Bandos Maldives
Bandos Maldives is an island resort in North Male located just 7 kilometers from the airport, reachable by speedboat in about 10 minutes. The island has around 220 rooms in eight different categories, including beachfront and overwater villas, surrounded by tropical plants and landscaped grounds.
The resort opened in December 1972 and was among the first places for visitors in the Maldives during the early days of the country's tourism. Since then it has continually expanded and modernized, adding numerous facilities and renovations that keep it operating today.
The name Bandos comes from the local language and refers to the island's northern location. Today visitors experience a relaxed beach resort where international guests and local staff share daily life, blending island traditions with contemporary hospitality.
Visitors should know that arrival is by speedboat, which can be rough in bad weather, so plan accordingly. Check-in is after 2 PM and check-out before noon, while the airport transfer runs frequently but requires a separate fee as part of your travel costs.
The resort was the first in the Maldives to install a hyperbaric chamber for diver safety after underwater activities. This facility shows the resort's commitment to safety and makes it a preferred destination for diving enthusiasts from around the world.
