Moll de la Barceloneta, Seafood restaurant and public square at Port Vell waterfront, Barcelona, Spain.
Moll de la Barceloneta is a waterfront square with a seafood restaurant situated on the quay of Port Vell in Barcelona. The space sits directly on the dock, so the tables face the moored boats and the open sea with nothing in between.
The Barceloneta neighborhood was built in the 18th century to house fishermen and port workers displaced by the construction of a nearby citadel. The quay itself developed alongside the port's growth and served for centuries as a working area for fishing boats and trading vessels.
The name refers to the old fishing quarter that grew up along this stretch of waterfront, and that connection is still felt today. People gather here to watch boats move in and out of the port while eating fresh seafood at tables set right on the water.
The spot is easy to reach on foot from the Barceloneta beach promenade or from the harbor area, and it is well signposted. Coming outside of main meal times is worth considering, as the square and restaurant can get very busy at lunch and in the evening.
The quay here was originally a working dock where fishermen unloaded their catch, not a public leisure space. It was only opened to visitors in recent decades, and the active Marina Port Vell next to it still makes it feel like a working harbor rather than a tourist promenade.
