The Rail Mall, Shopping district and Japanese restaurant in Northwest Singapore.
The Rail Mall is a single-story shopping complex along Upper Bukit Timah Road in Northwest Singapore, close to where the former Bukit Timah Railway line once ran. The complex houses several Japanese restaurants and shops selling imported Japanese goods and groceries.
The site sits along the route of the former Bukit Timah Railway line, which once linked Singapore to the Malay Peninsula before closing in 2011. After the line shut down, the surrounding area gradually shifted toward leisure and retail use.
The Japan Rail Cafe is designed to look like a Japanese train station, with seating, signage, and decor that reference rail travel. It draws people who want to share stories about Japan or simply enjoy Japanese food in a setting that feels connected to that country.
The complex is within walking distance of Hillview MRT station, making it easy to reach without a car. Everything is on one level, so moving between the shops and restaurants takes very little effort.
Hitoyoshi Market runs an online shop where customers can order authentic Japanese products and frozen meats for delivery at home. This means that part of what the complex offers can be enjoyed without visiting in person.
