Santuari de Lluc
Santuari de Lluc is a mountain monastery in Mallorca with simple stone architecture that blends into the surrounding landscape of trees and rocky hills. The site includes a small peaceful church, a museum with historical objects, a botanical garden with native plants, overnight accommodations, and various paths leading into the mountains.
The sanctuary was founded in the 13th century after a statue of the Virgin Mary was reportedly found among rocks, beginning the veneration of Our Lady of Lluc. The church was later built in the 17th century, and over time the site was expanded and renewed while keeping its original character.
The sanctuary holds deep spiritual meaning for local people and symbolizes the island's faith and traditions. During religious celebrations, the community gathers here to sing, pray, and keep customs alive in a welcoming atmosphere.
The site is accessible on foot, by bus, or by car along winding scenic roads leading into the mountains. Visitors should expect cool mountain weather and bring sturdy shoes for the many trails and the botanical garden.
The sanctuary is home to the Escolanía des Blauets, one of the oldest choirs in the Balearic Islands, which performs a world-recognized song on Christmas Eve. This musical tradition has been part of local culture for centuries and adds a special sonic quality to the place.
