The Baths at Clontarf
The Baths at Clontarf is a restaurant and bar building located on the Dublin seafront with large windows and high ceilings. Inside, nautical themes decorate the space with ropes and striped fabrics, while outside a heated seawater pool sits alongside picnic-style seating.
This building opened in 1886 as a bathhouse and assembly rooms, part of Dublin's seaside bathing culture in the late 1800s. After decades of decline and closure, it was recently restored and transformed into a modern restaurant while retaining historic elements from its past.
The Baths at Clontarf takes its name from an area with roots in seafaring and historical battles. Today it serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors come to enjoy time by the water and share meals featuring seafood.
Located on Clontarf Road right by the water, the restaurant is easy to reach by public transport with nearby parking available. Meals are served indoors only, while the outdoor area is for drinks and coffee only, and the spot gets crowded during pleasant weather or holidays.
The building closed in 1996 and sat abandoned for many years before being recently restored to life with entirely new interiors. This resurrection shows how a forgotten seafront landmark can be reimagined and brought back for new generations of visitors to enjoy.
