Oman Botanic Garden, Botanical garden in Al Khoudh, Oman
Al Khoudh Botanical Garden is a protected area in the Northern Mountains that displays all native plant species from Oman's different ecosystems. The site includes a visitor center, research facilities, educational trails, and two recreated biomes that show natural habitats for rare plants.
The garden was established under Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said's direction and became the largest botanical garden on the Arabian Peninsula. The project aimed to protect the region's plant wealth and knowledge for the future.
The garden features sections showing traditional Omani crops and how local people have used plants for healing and crafts over time. You can see which species matter most to people in this region and how they fit into daily practices.
Visit early in the morning or late afternoon when the higher elevations are cooler and light is better for walking. Good shoes are important because the ground is uneven in places and some paths are steep.
The site sits on unusual geology where an ancient seabed has risen to over 100 meters elevation. This rare geological feature created a landscape you would not find elsewhere in the region.
