Plage Gros Jonc, Beach in Le Bois-Plage-en-Ré, France
The Gros Jonc beach extends along 3 kilometers of fine sand, bordered by protected dunes and maritime pines on Île de Ré's southern coast.
The beach has maintained its natural character since the 18th century, when local inhabitants first started harvesting seaweed and salt from the surrounding marshes.
Two sailing schools at Gros Jonc beach offer water activities including windsurfing, catamaran sailing, surfing, and water skiing throughout the summer season.
The beach provides free parking, public restrooms, showers, and lifeguard supervision from late June to early September between 11:00 and 19:00.
The beach earned both the Blue Flag certification and the Bathing Water Quality certification, confirming its environmental standards and water excellence.
