El Chaparral Golf Club, Golf course in Las Lagunas de Mijas, Spain
El Chaparral Golf Club is an 18-hole course in Las Lagunas de Mijas, Spain, set just off the coastal N-340 road. Its layout covers 6,000 meters and mixes a large number of short, medium, and long holes, which asks for careful aim from anyone who plays it.
The course was first laid out by Pepe Gancedo, a Spanish designer known for shaping golf landscapes with a personal hand. Its arrangement of six holes of each par type made it unusual along this coast from the start.
The course sits in the Golf Valley of Mijas, a stretch known for drawing players from many countries year after year. Around the clubhouse, the calm rhythm of greetings and changing rooms gives the place a familiar, unhurried feel that first-time guests often notice.
Getting there is simple because it sits close to the main coastal road, and a large part of the parking area is shaded by wooden covers. The staff at the shop greet you right away, so it helps to arrive a little early and ask about the course layout before starting.
It is the only course on this coast that splits its 18 holes equally into par 3, par 4, and par 5, with six of each. This balance means a player never settles into one rhythm for long, which can surprise many who expect a more ordinary pattern.
