Harbin Zoo is a zoo located in the Acheng district of Harbin, in northeastern China. It holds over 150 species, including tigers, lions, giraffes, flamingos, and pandas, spread across open enclosures set among trees and gardens.
The zoo has been open for several decades and is one of the longtime public attractions in Harbin. Over the years it has added new species and gradually improved the enclosures to better reflect natural habitats.
The zoo is in the Acheng district, a bit outside central Harbin, so a car or taxi is the most convenient way to get there. Going early in the morning or late afternoon means fewer crowds and more active animals.
The zoo stays open through Harbin's harsh winters, when snow covers the grounds, and many animals remain outdoors. Watching animals move through a snow-covered landscape is an experience hard to find at most city zoos.
