La volière de l'Impérial is an aviary located on the Albigny Peninsula near Lake Annecy. It houses around 33 different bird species in a specially designed enclosure with a thoughtful layout.
The aviary was established in 1978 and has been part of Charles-Bosson Park ever since. Over the years, it has been maintained and improved by the City of Annecy.
The name comes from a historic villa that once stood in the area. Visitors can observe how the birds live and interact with each other in a setting designed to feel natural.
Morning visits work best when the birds are most active and the light is good for viewing. The grounds are easy to walk around and offer shaded areas for resting.
A protective net covers the entire facility to shield the birds from outside diseases after Newcastle disease was once a concern. This precaution makes the place a notable example of biosecurity in European aviaries.
