Muséo'Parc du Marinier, Theme park in Briennon, France
The Muséo'Parc du Marinier is a recreation park along the canal between Roanne and Digoin with various activities including mini-golf, water games, trampolines, and zip lines for families. At its center sits the restored Freycinet-type barge La Dhuys, a traditional cargo boat now set up as a museum.
The site was created in 2001 as interest grew in the history of the canal, which drove Briennon's development in the 1800s. Restoring the barge La Dhuys made it possible to share this important part of local water transport history with visitors.
The museum barge La Dhuys displays life aboard traditional canal boats through reconstructed living spaces and cargo holds that visitors walk through. The exhibition conveys the daily experience of boat families who once traveled these waterways.
The park is accessible with plenty of space to move between activities. Visitors should allow time to explore the museum barge, as the exhibit rewards a slower pace to absorb all its details.
The museum barge was specially restored to feature the narrative of an old mariner recounting his canal adventures to his grandson. This personal storytelling approach brings the historical lives of these boating families closer to visitors in an intimate way.
