Le Jardin Fantastique

Le Jardin Fantastique is a theme park in the Jura region that spans about 7 hectares and features a walkable hedge maze composed of over 4400 hornbeam trees. The structured plant arrangement forms a large maze that visitors navigate while discovering natural geological features.

The site was originally a stone quarry used for craft extraction before clearing work began in 1991. The park first opened to visitors in 2005.

The maze follows a French garden design approach and incorporates natural caves and spring fountains visible between the hedges. The layout shows how traditional garden-building ideas connect with the Jura landscape.

Access is best on foot since the maze is designed to be walked through and offers varying difficulty levels. Good footwear is recommended as the paths cross uneven terrain and require movement over extended time.

The grounds retain traces of its former use as a stone quarry, showing the blend of human influence and natural beauty. Visitors encounter this hidden geological history as they make their way through the maze.
