Yanaka Ginza Shopping Street, Shopping street in Taito City, Japan
Yanaka Ginza Shopping Street is a shōtengai in Taito City, Japan. It is a narrow paved lane lined with small shops and eateries, with a reddish-brown surface and signs such as a teal-green one with a white cat and a cream building with vertical lettering.
The shopping street emerged naturally around 1945 and grew into a local shopping area. In the Heisei era, the surrounding area gained attention as Yanaka-Nezu-Sendagi, and the street became a center for walks.
Locals and visitors come here to buy everyday goods and snacks, and the street is known for its retro feel. The nearby stairs called Yuyake Dandan offer a view of the setting sun over the rooftops.
The street is a short walk from Nippori Station and is best explored on foot. It can get crowded on weekends, so visiting on a weekday morning offers a more relaxed experience.
The stairs leading to the street, Yuyake Dandan, have 36 steps and a gentle slope. They were named in 1990 by a local writer, and the area is known for its many cats.
