Cascade de Juzet, Waterfall in Juzet-de-Luchon, France

The Cascade de Juzet is a waterfall in the small village of Juzet-de-Luchon, in the Haute-Garonne department of southwestern France, close to Bagnères-de-Luchon. The water drops over a rocky face of brown stone and feeds a stream that winds through the valley below.

The village of Juzet-de-Luchon and its waterfall were long shaped by farmers and shepherds who used the surrounding mountains for grazing. The waterfall once powered a mill before the site became a place that drew visitors from outside the region.

The Cascade de Juzet once powered a water mill that was part of daily life in the village. The mill is long gone, but the sound of the falling water still marks the rhythm of the place for those who live nearby.

The waterfall is a short walk from the village town hall, and parking is available near the square. Spring and early summer offer the most water, but paths can be slippery after rain, so sturdy shoes are a good idea.

Over the decades, several European monarchs visited the waterfall during their stays in the Luchon area, including King Leopold II of Belgium and a prince of Monaco. Leopold II is said to have stopped at a nearby local tobacco shop during one of his visits, adding an unexpected detail to the site's story.
