Le Jardín du Tripot, Town garden in Honfleur, Normandy, France
Le Jardín du Tripot is a town garden in the heart of Honfleur, Normandy, laid out along a branch of the Claire river with several viewpoints over the water. The paths, walls, and basins are made from materials found on site, giving the space a rustic, grounded feel.
The area where the garden now stands was once home to tanneries and dye works that relied on the Claire river for their trade. Renovation work leading up to the garden's opening in December 2013 uncovered remnants of these workshops, including dye vats and a network of old channels.
The garden was given artworks by local artist Annick Leroy, whose creations draw on the crafts practiced here in the past. A large mosaic depicts the work of tanners and dyers, while several sculptures, including four geese spouting water and a child holding an umbrella, are placed around the garden.
The garden is located just off the rue Charles et Paul Breard, near the tourist office, and is easy to reach on foot from the town center. Entry is free, dogs are welcome, but some paths are narrow or uneven, which can make it harder to get around for visitors with reduced mobility.
A large mosaic snail sculpture by Annick Leroy sits in the garden and tends to go unnoticed compared to the more visible fountains. The garden also features topiary bushes trimmed into geometric shapes, adding a layer of deliberate design that is easy to walk past without noticing.
