Base de Loisirs de Testarouman, Outdoor leisure center in Pissos, France
The Base de Loisirs de Testarouman is an outdoor leisure center on the banks of the Grande Leyre river, in Pissos, in the Landes region. The site brings together canoeing, a tree-climbing course with over 40 games, archery, blowgun shooting, orienteering, mountain biking trails, a group campsite, and a nearby municipal swimming pool.
The Landes region was for centuries a land of marshes and difficult terrain, until the 19th century when maritime pines were planted on a large scale under Napoleon III to drain the soil. This transformation shaped the forest that now surrounds the Grande Leyre and gave the area the character visitors see today.
The Grande Leyre river gives the site much of its character, drawing visitors who want to paddle through old trees or simply sit by the water. Archery, orienteering, and tree climbing are among the activities on offer, giving groups a hands-on way to engage with the surrounding forest.
The center is open daily in summer and staffed by qualified instructors who guide beginners through every activity. It is worth calling ahead to check availability and current conditions, as not all activities can be booked online.
The campsite at the center is reserved exclusively for organized groups such as holiday camps, clubs, and associations, and can host around 200 tents or rooms. This makes it different from most campsites, where individuals and families book freely.
