Chapiteau de Fontvieille
Chapiteau de Fontvieille is a large tent structure in western Monaco overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and surrounding mountains. The venue accommodates up to 6,000 guests and hosts circus performances, concerts, formal dinners, sports events, and exhibitions.
The tent structure was established in 1974 to host Monaco's International Circus Festival, an initiative by Prince Rainier III. Since its creation, the venue has evolved into a cultural landmark shaping the principality's entertainment calendar for decades.
The tent serves as Monaco's main circus hub, drawing performers and audiences from around the world each year. It embodies the principality's tradition of celebrating acrobatic arts and theatrical spectacles as part of its cultural calendar.
Access to the grounds is straightforward, allowing visitors to explore the outdoor areas and event space. The Fontvieille location provides good connectivity to the rest of Monaco and enables attendance at events or casual exploration of the surrounding gardens and waterfront.
The presentation of the Golden Clown Award by Princess Stephanie during the circus festival ranks among the highest honors in international circus arts. This visible link between Monaco's royal family and circus tradition gives the event a distinctive cultural weight rarely found elsewhere.
