The Cave and Waterfall of Seythenex is a natural site near Faverges-Seythenex in Haute-Savoie, made up of a walkable cave and a waterfall that drops about 150 ft (45 m) over rocky cliffs. Walkways and bridges bring visitors close to the falling water, while lit paths inside the cave lead through underground tunnels and rock formations.
The cave and waterfall at Seythenex were shaped over thousands of years by water carving its way through the rock, forming the tunnels and formations visitors see today. At some point the site was opened to the public and developed into one of the few accessible cave locations in this part of the mountains.
The cave at Seythenex is the only one in Haute-Savoie open to the public, which gives it a special place among the outdoor spots of the region. Guided tours are offered regularly, and many local families come here for day trips throughout the warmer months.
The temperature inside the cave stays around 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius) year-round, so bringing a jacket is a good idea regardless of the weather outside. The paths can be wet and slippery, so sturdy footwear is strongly recommended.
The site has two zip lines each about 500 ft (150 m) long that cross directly above the waterfall, giving riders an unusual view of the falling water from above. Riders can feel the spray and hear the roar of the water directly below them as they cross.
