Les Jardins du Bâtiment

The gardens cover ten hectares and feature eight boxwood parterres shaped as embroidery, a rustic pergola leading to a yew theater, and a seventy-meter reflecting pool surrounded by Italian-style lime trees and topiary hedges.

Created between 1986 and 2001 by William Christie around a 16th-century manor house classified as a historic monument in 1985, these gardens received the Remarkable Garden label in 2004 and were listed on the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments in 2006.

Since 2012, the gardens host the annual festival Dans les Jardins de William Christie, dedicated to baroque music and organized by the Les Arts Florissants ensemble, creating a dialogue between landscape art and musical heritage.

The gardens are open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM, with an entrance fee of five euros payable in cash, and smoking or bringing dogs is prohibited on the premises.

Creator William Christie integrated influences from 17th-century Dutch gardens and the English Arts and Crafts movement, including original chinoiserie topiary work in the green theater and a small cloister with four meticulously trimmed boxwood squares.
