Parc d'Oci i Natura de les Deus, Nature and leisure park in Sant Quintí de Mediona, Spain
Parc d'Oci i Natura de les Deus is a nature and leisure area in Sant Quintí de Mediona where water from underground springs flows into the Mediona River. The site features springs with 23 spouts, caves with stalactites and stalagmites, and a network of paths and footbridges that let visitors explore the area.
People have used the springs at les Deus since the Islamic period, when irrigation channels were first built. The caves were discovered by chance in 1954 during stone extraction, and since then the site has been developed for tourism.
The name "les Deus" comes from the springs that have long been central to life in Sant Quintí de Mediona. Today, locals and visitors gather at the picnic area and bar, especially on weekends, to enjoy the water and the shade of the trees.
The park is easy to reach on foot from the village, and the paths are mostly flat, making them suitable for most visitors. It is best to allow a few hours to walk the trails, see the springs, and enjoy the picnic areas, and to wear comfortable shoes for the caves.
The caves at les Deus were unknown to most people until 1954, when a request to extract stone for the Barcelona Zoo aquarium led to their discovery. The rock here is travertine, which acts like a sponge, absorbing rainwater and slowly creating the stalactites and stalagmites inside.
