Algar Waterfalls, Natural waterfalls in Callosa d'en Sarrià, Spain
The Algar Waterfalls form a series of natural cascades that flow through limestone cliffs and create several pools for swimming along the walking path. The water moves through a forested canyon with rocky banks and shaded sections.
The name comes from an Arabic word meaning cave, showing long use by people in the area. Since medieval times the water supplied irrigation systems for orchards throughout the region.
The area connects to local fruit farming, especially the loquats from Callosa that carry protected origin status. The water flow shaped orcharding traditions that defined the region for generations.
Parking, restaurants, and restrooms are located at the entrance, making visits straightforward. The walk is easy to manage and visiting on warm days adds to the refreshing feeling of the water pools.
The water comes from an underground aquifer that collects rainfall from the Bèrnia and El Ferrer mountain ranges above. This same system feeds water to the Guadalest and Amadorio reservoirs downstream.
