Yason Burnu, Cape on the Black Sea coast, Turkey

Yason Burnu is a cape on the Black Sea coast of Turkey, located in the Çaytepe neighbourhood of Ordu province and recognized as a tourist attraction. It juts out into the sea with a rocky shoreline and features the Panaya Church, a stone building sitting on the cape itself.

The cape appears in the writings of the Greek historian Xenophon around 400 BC, who noted a ship visible from this point. The Panaya Church was built here in 1868 by Greek residents, fell into disrepair over time, and was restored in 2004.

The Panaya Church on the cape was built by local Greek villagers and features a plain round dome and thick stone walls with carved details at the entrance. Visitors today walk around the church and along the rocky shore, often pausing to look out at the Black Sea.

The cape is a short drive from the town of Perşembe and can be reached by rental car from Ordu or Samsun airports, with the coastal road offering good views along the way. Wearing sturdy shoes is a good idea since the shore is rocky and the ground can be uneven.

The cape takes its name from Jason of the Argonauts, the Greek hero said to have sailed past this point on his quest for the Golden Fleece. Stone pools carved into the coastal rocks are still visible today and were used by fishermen thousands of years ago to trap or hold fish.
