GramadoZoo, zoo in Brazil
GramadoZoo is an animal park in Gramado, Brazil, that shows only native Brazilian species, including jaguars, monkeys, macaws, and caimans in large, naturalistic enclosures. Paths extend about 1.2 kilometers (0.75 miles) along paved but uneven trails that pass through planted areas with aviaries and glass-walled sections.
The park opened in September 2008 as the first Brazilian animal park dedicated exclusively to native species and housing rescued animals from illegal trade. TripAdvisor named it the best animal park in Brazil in 2019.
The name joins the town's name with the word for animal park and shows a modern approach to animal care. Many visitors come to see only Brazilian species in enclosures that resemble their natural homes.
A visit takes about two hours on foot along paved but hilly paths with small rises and dips. Tickets can be bought online or at the entrance, and a VIP tour is available for closer contact.
The grounds feature a Calçada da Fauna, a special walkway displaying the footprints of jaguars, maned wolves, and pumas. Each jaguar has a distinctive spot pattern similar to a human fingerprint visible on its coat.
