Vila Primorka is a hotel on the island of Brijuni, inside the national park off the coast of Pula in Croatia. The building sits right at the waterfront, surrounded by dense greenery, with open terraces facing the sea.
The island of Brijuni was transformed at the end of the 19th century by an Austrian industrialist who turned it into a resort. It later became the private retreat of Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito for several decades.
Vila Primorka sits within Brijuni National Park, a place long associated with state guests and diplomatic visits. Visitors today can feel that sense of remove from everyday life as soon as they step onto the island.
Brijuni island is accessible only by boat, and access is restricted to visitors with a reservation since the area is managed as a national park. Once there, electric cars and bicycles are available on the island to get around.
The Brijuni islands were once home to a group of exotic animals that Tito received as diplomatic gifts from heads of state around the world. Some of these animals are still represented on the island today through the safari park open to visitors.
