Kobernaußerwaldwarte

The Kobernaußerwaldwarte is an observation tower in Lohnsburg that rises to a height of 30 meters (98 feet) and features a staircase with 125 steps. The viewing platform at the top offers views across the Upper Austrian landscape and allows visitors to see the surrounding area from above.

A wooden structure was built in 1929 and initially served surveying purposes until it was demolished in 1934 due to structural problems. The concrete tower that stands today was built in 1969 to replace the original.

The tower contains a gallery space that features rotating exhibitions with regional themes and work by local artists throughout the year. This space gives visitors a look at the creative work of people from the surrounding area.

Access to the viewing platform is through a coin-operated system that works every day, allowing visitors to explore the tower on their own schedule. Wearing comfortable shoes is recommended since climbing the stairs takes a bit of effort.

On clear days, visitors can see the Upper Austrian Alps, the Salzkammergut region, and sections of the Bohemian Forest stretching north from the platform. This wide view helps people understand the different landscapes that make up the region.
