Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary

Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary, Wildlife sanctuary and zoo in Brighton, Tasmania

Bonorong is a wildlife sanctuary and zoo in Brighton where kangaroos roam freely among visitors while Tasmanian devils, wombats, and echidnas stay in separate spaces. The grounds feature different enclosures and naturalized areas where native species can be observed and studied.

The sanctuary started as a wildlife refuge and grew into a rehabilitation center for injured and orphaned animals across Tasmania. This transformation allowed the site to become central to animal rescue and care in the region.

The sanctuary sits on traditional Mumirimina land and honors Aboriginal heritage through its conservation work. Visitors experience a place where environmental responsibility and recognition of the first peoples are woven together.

Visitors receive kangaroo food upon arrival and can join guided tours to learn about native species throughout the day. Plan your visit with enough time to observe the animals during their most active hours.

The facility runs a 24-hour animal rescue service responding to emergencies throughout Tasmania. This constant readiness shows its commitment that goes far beyond the sanctuary grounds.
