Cave de Vouvray, Wine shop in Vouvray, France
Cave de Vouvray is a wine shop in the Loire region with two retail spaces and underground cellars beneath limestone cliffs. The network stretches over three kilometers and stores thousands of bottles from different years.
The underground spaces originally started as tuffeau stone quarries that supplied materials for Loire Valley castles. Later they were converted into wine cellars to store the grape harvest.
The shop works with local grape growers from the region and preserves the traditional wine-making knowledge of Vouvray. Visitors can see the connection between the wines and the people who produce them.
The retail areas are accessible and offer various wines to taste and purchase. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the underground passages are cool and humid.
The underground cellar spaces maintain a constant cool temperature that is ideal for long-term wine bottle storage. This natural cooling allows bottles to remain in optimal condition for many years.
