WellenBerg
WellenBerg is an outdoor swimming pool in Oberammergau that operates from May through September and offers water basins in open air. The facility includes a 50-meter sports pool with a diving area, a children's pool, large grass areas for sunbathing, a playground, a sand arena, and a volleyball court.
In 2023, WellenBerg was transformed into a pure outdoor pool facility and permanently closed its indoor pool. This conversion marks a shift in focus toward seasonal bathing during the warm months.
The facility reflects the local summer culture of the Bavarian region, where outdoor time during warm months is part of everyday life. Visitors gather here not only to swim but to spend time with family and friends, embracing the social aspect of shared leisure.
The outdoor pool is open Monday to Friday from noon to 7 pm and weekends plus holidays from 11 am to 7 pm, but closes during bad weather. Parking is available, and visitors should only use designated areas and avoid residential zones.
The water basins are mainly heated by solar energy, which means the water can still be cool at the start of the May season. Children under 6 years old enter free, and all visitors receive free admission on their birthday.
